Canadian Rotary Club Insurance

Clubs on the Canadian side of District 5050 pay an additional fee each year for insurance coverage. Below is a message from Andrew Crosbie:

We have received our insurance policy documents for the 2026/2027 year.  I wanted to pass along some documents and information.

General Information:

1. Our broker is WM Beck in Kamloops.  This brokerage is managed by two Rotarians.

2. This year, our insurer kindly offered to give us an extra week of coverage for no additional premium.  This means that our policy began July 1, 2026 and expires July 8, 2027.  The benefit to this is so our renewal doesn’t align with Canada Day.  There are clubs that have events that day and historically, it’s been difficult for our broker to provide certificates of insurance to those clubs on the exact renewal date.  

3. The yearly cost per person is ~$24 per year.

5. A Certificate of Insurance showing Commercial General Liability - This is great for venues we’re occupying that need to see proof of our coverage.

6. A Certificate of Insurance showing Commercial General Liability and Directors & Officers coverage.  - This is great for Rotarians interested in our coverage, but who don’t want to read through the full policy documents.

7. 2026 Rotary Events Covered – Not Covered.  This is a quick glance at what is automatically covered, what may be with more information, and what is not automatically covered.

8. Rotary Certificate Request Form.  Need to add someone as an additional insured for a space we’re occupying?  Or have a certificate made out to someone specifically for an event we’re running?  This is the form you’ll need to send in to rotary@wmbeck.com to request that.

Below is information on the American Rotary insurance policy:

• General liability insurance protects clubs, districts, and other insureds for their liability arising out of bodily injury or property damage to a third party (e.g., an attendee at a club or district event slips, trips, and falls).

• Directors & officers liability insurance provides coverage for claims made against club members and club and district officers for liability arising out of the performance of their duties.

• Employment practices liability insurance provides coverage for claims arising out of club or district employment practices.

• A copy of the certificate of insurance you completed (the certificate of insurance is available on the U.S. Rotary Insurance Portal).

• A complete copy of the written contract or permit you have completed or are in process of completing with the third party. The contract or permit must include a section on insurance requirements and explicitly state that you are required to provide an additional insured endorsement.

• The third party's name as they require it to be listed as well as their address.

• The complete name of your U.S. club or district.

• The name, date(s), description, and location of the event.
